A few weeks back, we completed another project we always envisioned for this space: built-in storage for our mudroom! We have been hard at work knocking out projects we have planned to do, especially before our baby boy arrives in a few short months.
Before our home renovation, this space was awkward, not functional, or reaching its full potential. It was part closet, part pass through from the garage leading to the main entry hallway. When we did the walk through for our renovations, I immediately envisioned this space being the perfect little mudroom and drop zone for all of our belongings when we come home. Once we refinish our pool (hopefully by next summer), this will also be the designated place to dry off and the drop zone for wet towels and swimsuits.
With less than three weeks until the first official day of fall, I can't help but anxiously await its arrival. Fall has always been my favorite season, probably because I never experienced much of one growing up in south Texas, and there are so many things to look forward to. Things like the promise of cooler weather, changing leaves, fall festivals, layered fall fashion (my favorite), cozy living and snuggling by the fire, welcoming the holiday season, pie, quality time with family, our anniversary, and this year, the birth of our baby boy.
Typically, I'm a stickler for letting each season have its own, designated time and run its course, but this year, I have already broken my own "rules." I already tried my first ever pumpkin drink--the Starbucks Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew (which was actually quite enjoyable and not too sweet) and purchased a few new fall decorations in preparation of decorating our home for the new season. I searched some of my favorite stores like Anthropologie, Target, and Kirkland's for my recent fall purchases and gathered up my favorite finds, so I'm excited to share them with you below!
Living and wall decor:
Now, we will have to wait and see how long I can hold off actually decorating! My goal is to wait until the weekend before the first official day, but we shall see how long my willpower lasts.
How we told our families and friends:
After my first doctor's appointment, it was hard to keep our secret from our families and friends. Together, we decided that we would tell our close friends and people who would be praying for us during this time first, as it was still early on in my pregnancy. The very first people we told were our friends in our small group from church. Because our state mandated shelter in place was still in effect from the pandemic, we weren't meeting in person. (We initially wanted to wait to tell everyone when we could be together, but in hindsight, I'm glad we didn't wait because it would have been so long and would have come as a huge surprise to them when they finally saw me and my baby bump!) As we were closing our virtual time together one Thursday evening, we mentioned we had another prayer request to add. Then, Ryan held up the Eagles onesie I had used to surprise him with, and we waited for their reactions. As they leaned in to their screens to get a closer look, we heard cheers and laughter and saw huge smiles and dropped jaws! Our friends couldn't believe our news, but were so happy and excited for us and assured us that they would be praying for us and this new adventure!
