They say, "Everything's bigger in Texas," and for those of us who are lucky enough to call ourselves Texans, we know that this is true.
Everything from the land, to the food, to the hair is bigger in Texas, but let's not forget the fashion! Austin Fashion Week is the largest fashion event in Texas and just wrapped up a couple of weekends ago at the beautiful J.W. Marriott downtown. Over the course of three nights, artisans, designers, bloggers, and fashion lovers from all over the state come together to inspire and be inspired.
This was my second year to attend Austin Fashion Week, and I loved getting to be a part of it again! It is so exciting to see so many talented individuals in one place and to see their visions come to fruition. Some of my favorite designers from night one this year were Project Runway season winners and All Stars, Jeffrey Sebelia, with his darling mini's collection, and Daniel Esquivel with his feminine, elegant pieces. Of the local Austin designers, Samantha Plasencia and Katie Kime were my favorite. Katie Kime's designs especially caught my eye with her colorful, playful prints and perfectly mixed patterns. I'm still daydreaming about her adorable watermelon print dress! (What can I say, once a Watermelon Queen, always a Watermelon Queen.) Samantha Plasencia's bright and bold designs paved the way for her to become this year's Austin Fashion Fund winner.
There is so much to do and see at Austin Fashion Week from walking the red carpet, snapping photos, meeting fellow creatives, browsing and shopping the artisan gallery, awe-ing over the runway shows, and sipping cocktails! Special thanks to Chloe Wine for helping us unwind and toast to an weekend full of wonderful events!
For night 1 of Austin Fashion Week, I wore this high neck. window pane tunic dress from Urban Outfitters--borrowed from my little bitty "twin" Amber's closet. I completed the look with a half-up, half down 'do tied with a bow, my new favorite block heel ASOS sandals, and a pair of sparkling Suzanna Dai gold fringe earrings,
I met Suzie, designer behind Suzanna Dai, last year during my very first Austin Fashion Week, and couldn't think of a better match to partner with for this year's events. Her jewelry is so lovely, unique, and beautifully crafted. It was so fun getting to share whose designs I was wearing, and to support a local Austin designer! To see more of her stunning pieces and latest collection, visit her website here, and get a pair for yourself or find that perfect gift for Mother's Day at 30% off! I felt so feminine, confident, and fun in this 60's inspired outfit, and felt like it was the perfect way to kick off the festivities.
Stay tuned for part 2 of my Austin Fashion Week recap as I sit down with one of the runway designers, and to see what I wore for Friday night's events!
Little bitty love,
Special thanks to Suzanna Dai for partnering with me for Austin Fashion Week.
