I will never forget the day I realized I needed glasses as a little girl. I was at a family friend's house and we were in her living room practicing our gymnastics. She took off her glasses while we were doing handstands and cartwheels, and I playfully grabbed them and put them on. As soon as I had them on, I realized how much clearer I could see the world around me. I took them on and off several times to be sure, and told my mom when she picked me up that I thought I needed glasses. A short time later at my first eye exam, the doctor asked me what were the smallest letters I could read from the sign, and the only one I could differentiate was the "E." The only reason I said it was an "E" is because I knew all eye exam signs started with a giant E, haha!
Fast forward several years and many pairs of glasses and contact lenses later, and I still heavily rely on my lenses for vision correction every day. I can't even see the time on the clock in the morning without them, much less function throughout the day! Because of my many years of experience, I always thought I had to get my glasses through my optometrist and that my options were limited to what they offered at their office. When I graduated from college and moved to Austin, I thought I was destined to have the same confined experience with glasses and contacts all over again. Then I discovered Coastal.
Coastal is the largest online eyewear company in the world with a great mission to make vision correction accessible worldwide. They offer a wide range of eyewear styles from designer to exclusively designed brands. Their website makes your search for durable, affordable eyewear online so simple and user friendly. All you have to do to get started is choose which way you'd prefer to shop: by brand, style, face shape or fit.
For my new pair of glasses, I chose to shop using their "MyFit" tool and my style preference. The "MyFit" tool takes your unique measurements from your current pair of glasses and tells you which pairs from their online store match your current fit. Then, I chose two different shapes of frames that are my style. Lastly, I wanted a unique pair of glasses, so I chose an exclusively designed Coastal brand. My favorite pair with "MyFit" unique measurements were the Kam Dhillon "Marie" frames in Tokyo Tortoise. The final step was to add in my prescription (this is where your eye doctor comes in handy!), or if you don't need prescription lenses, you can skip this step and choose your type of lenses. I was shocked that my brand new pair of customized glasses with prescription lenses came out to under $100!
I love that Coastal has a variety of affordable frames (starting at $35) that make it feasible to own multiple pairs and build your eyeglasses wardrobe, just like any other part of your wardrobe. The best part about Coastal is once you select your new pair, you can donate your old pair of glasses to someone in need or ensure they are sustainably reused with the help of their team.
I am so thankful that Coastal made it so easy and convenient for me to navigate this new world of buying eyewear online, and that I was able to replace my eight year old pair of glasses at a very affordable price. I'm considering ordering a second pair with anti-glare lenses for work too!
If you're in the market for a new pair of glasses and want to #SeeClearly, definitely consider shopping with Coastal, and feel free to ask me for any tips or suggestions about how to shop for your new pair online!
